Sample partner map
This is what you receive from our collaborator and partner mapping service. The example is illustrative: all people, institutions and awards are invented. A real map is built from public award data, such as UKRI’s Gateway to Research and the EU’s CORDIS database.
The brief
Client: an early-career lecturer in public health, researching heat exposure and health in older adults.
Goal: join or build a team for a large interdisciplinary climate-and-health call within 18 months, without the track record to lead one alone yet.

What the map shows
- A missing link you can fill. The strongest climate-modelling team and the strongest ageing-epidemiology team in this field have no shared award. Work that links neighbourhood heat to health outcomes sits exactly between them.
- Where the money flows. Most relevant funding comes through MRC and NERC, with Wellcome Discovery as a later route to an independent bid.
- Built-environment teams come later. They will strengthen a large bid, but are not the first people to approach.
Who to approach, and how
| Order | Person | Their funded work | Why they fit | Suggested first step |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Prof. Priya Nair, University of Westbury | MRC programme, £2.4m, 2022–2027: a cohort study of older adults | Holds the health data, but has no climate expertise in the team | Offer a short analysis linking heat exposure to outcomes in the cohort; request a meeting at the next sector conference |
| 2 | Prof. Helen Marsh, University of Eastholm | NERC grant, £1.1m, 2023–2026: neighbourhood heat models | Her models need health outcomes to show impact | Propose a joint application to a small pilot grant scheme that links her models to health data |
| 3 | Dr Ruth Okafor, Kingsgate Institute | Wellcome Discovery, £1.6m, 2024–2029 | Warm route: you have co-authored with a member of her team | Ask for a 20-minute call about her European partners and future calls |
All names, institutions and awards above are invented for illustration.
Your 18-month plan
Months 1–3
Open conversations
Approach Prof. Nair and Prof. Marsh with a specific, useful offer, not a request to join.
Months 4–9
Build a joint track record
Apply together for a small pilot grant and co-author an early output.
Months 10–18
Go for the large call
Bring both teams into a large interdisciplinary bid, with a built-environment partner added.
How a real map is built
- We search public award databases, including UKRI’s Gateway to Research and the EU’s CORDIS, using your topics and methods.
- We keep current and recent awards, and map co-investigator links from shared awards.
- We assess each team’s fit against your profile and the calls you are targeting.
- We do not contact anyone for you. You receive the map, the reasoning and an approach plan to act on yourself.
